Sarah Gray set up her own professional practice in Tynemouth in 2016, after qualifying as a solicitor in 1998 and spending many years working in the legal profession. Whilst valuing her experience there, in latter years she has seen the impact of the changes in focus of the legal profession, particularly the move from delivering a personal service to one of a ‘commercial’ service to clients. She wanted to get back to basics delivering an old fashioned personal and entirely bespoke service to clients and so set up Grays Powers of Attorney in order to do this.
Too many lawyers are generalists. Sarah does not want to be ‘Jacks of all Trades’. She believes that it is important for her clients that she concentrates on having an in depth knowledge of the particular issues which concern them and their families, especially in their retirement years or during periods of illness or particular vulnerability. She therefore specialises in Powers of Attorney and areas related to the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Sarah believes that in law a truly personal service has become rarer and sees an analogy between her own field and what has happened in banking. Centralisation has rendered high street banks impersonal, inflexible, and lacking in personal attention to their customers. Most customers, if given the choice, would abandon today’s ‘Call Centre’ culture and return to the days of the high street bank when a recognisable, accountable and accessible manager knew and understood his or her customers (and their circumstances) almost better than they did themselves.
The delivery of legal services should be a true service. Sarah is therefore available to her clients twenty four hours a day, three hundred and sixty five days a year in case of need. She is happy to see clients in their homes, or in a meeting place where they are comfortable, according to their preference. She understands the importance of really getting to know and understand each client’s circumstances and of earning their trust.
The ethos of giving a truly bespoke and caring service is what drives her, and what her clients tell her makes her unique.
